Action Plan:  Projects
British Waterways: Wolverhampton and Staffordshire Canal Corridor Biodiversity Challenge
The project is funded by the Grantscape Biodiversity Challenge Fund and is aimed at delivering positive action for Biodiveristy Action Plan species associated with the canal corridor and removing barriers to expansion and colonisation.

The community have to become involved to make this a successful project, over such a large area. Local people are going to be critical in making this project a success, especially with the future monitoring of the projects success.

We already have two teams of local people through Groundwork,  carrying out biodiversity enhancements such as bioengineering, reedbed creation, otter holts and installing bat roosting boxes. We are also aiming at creating a bat cave, community orchard and kingfisher tunnels that can be monitored through a CCTV camera.

The canal has always been used as a safe passage for species and we are looking at reducing the friction points and encouraging some of the rarer species to colonise through innovative measures.
